What Are Dental Fillings?
A dental filling is used to repair a tooth that has been damaged by decay or minor fractures. The affected portion of the tooth is carefully removed and replaced with a restorative material to restore its shape, strength, and function. Modern fillings are designed to blend naturally with your smile and provide long-lasting protection.
At My Local Dentists, we offer a range of filling materials, including tooth-coloured composites, to suit your needs and help your teeth look and feel as good as new.
Is This Right for You?
You may need a filling if you:
- Have a cavity detected during a check-up
- Feel sensitivity or pain when eating hot, cold, or sweet foods
- Have an old or damaged filling that needs replacing
- Have a chipped tooth that needs repair
- Want to replace amalgam fillings with a tooth-coloured alternative
How It Works
- 1 Assessment
Your dentist examines the tooth and may take an X-ray to determine the extent of the decay. They'll explain what they find and recommend the appropriate filling material.
- 2 Numbing
Local anaesthetic is applied to ensure you're comfortable throughout the procedure. You won't feel pain during the treatment.
- 3 Decay removal and filling
The decayed portion of the tooth is carefully removed. The cavity is cleaned and filled with your chosen material, then shaped and polished to match your natural bite.
- 4 Bite check and aftercare
Your dentist checks your bite to ensure the filling sits comfortably. You'll receive aftercare advice, including when the numbness will wear off and what to expect in the following days.
