What Are Dental Crowns and Bridges?
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over a damaged, weakened, or heavily filled tooth to restore its strength, shape, and appearance. Crowns are commonly used after root canal treatment, to protect a cracked tooth, or to cover a dental implant.
A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. It consists of an artificial tooth (or teeth) anchored to the natural teeth on either side of the gap, restoring your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
At My Local Dentists, all our crowns and bridges are crafted by Australian partner laboratories using high-quality materials for durability and a natural look.
Is This Right for You?
You might benefit from a crown or bridge if you:
- Have a tooth that is cracked, weakened, or heavily filled and needs protection
- Have had a root canal and need a crown to restore the tooth
- Are missing one or more teeth and want a fixed, non-removable replacement
- Want to improve the appearance of a misshapen or severely discoloured tooth
- Need a crown to complete a dental implant restoration
What Is the Process?
- 1 Consultation & Preparation
Your dentist examines the tooth, takes X-rays if needed, and discusses your options. The tooth is prepared by reshaping it to accommodate the crown. Impressions are taken and sent to our Australian partner lab.
- 2 Temporary Crown
A temporary crown is placed to protect the prepared tooth while your permanent crown or bridge is being crafted by the lab.
- 3 Fitting
At your second appointment, the temporary crown is removed and your permanent crown or bridge is checked for fit, colour, and bite. Once everything looks right, it is cemented permanently in place.
- 4 Aftercare
Your dentist provides care instructions to help your restoration last. Regular check-ups allow us to monitor the crown or bridge and keep your smile healthy.
